The search is on for our local treasures. The Pride of Andover awards are looking for the gems in our community who make a difference and change people’s lives – and this year there are brand new categories and new sponsors too.
The Pride awards celebrate the people from the town and nearby villages who have inspired others or have improved the lives of neighbours, friends, colleagues, customers or clients.
As usual, award categories include the prestigious Heart of Gold and Spirit of Andover awards but there are new sections too.
These include Teacher of the Year, Carer of the Year and a Health Award for nurses, health visitors, paramedics or anyone who has made a difference to someone’s health and wellbeing.
Television celebrity Esther Rantzen will present the awards, which have a proud new main sponsor in David Mellor and Sons Jewellers, who have a shop in Andover’s Waterloo Court, as well as in other towns.
Christine Mellor said: “We are delighted to sponsor this fantastic event. We have received support from Andover customers for 37 years and are just pleased to be able to hand something back to say thank you to Andover.”
Other sponsors include Solitaire jewellers and the event is supported by Andover Town Council, The Lights, Andover Buffet Services, Phil Evans photography, Andover Framing, Andover IT and Bull by the Horns, PR and writing agency.
Nominations are now open and can be made until 31 July.
A shortlist will be announced in August. And a night of celebration for all the finalists and their supporters will be held at The Lights, compered by radio presenter Steve Randell, on 1 October.
Nominees could come from any walk of life, and can be volunteers or people who are paid. But what they will all have in common is that they stand out from crowd and go out of their way to help people or are inspiring to others.
Nominations can be made online at prideofandoverawards.org.uk or by filling in a nomination form and posting it to: Pride of Andover Awards, 66C High Street, Andover, SP10 1NG. More information about the categories is online too.
