(press release in Andover Advertiser July 2013)
Children have the chance to give their inspiration teacher more than a box of chocolates or a pot plant this year by nominating them for a Pride of Andover Award.
The new 2013 category allows people to spotlight the best teachers, lecturers, learning support assistants or anyone else who works in education.
Barbara Long, from the Pride of Andover Award committee, said: “Teachers and other people in education change lives.
“When you hear people who have made it to the top of their tree talk, they often say the person who inspired them taught them at school or college or university. And we think it’s only right we give these people the recognition they deserve.”
People have until 31 July to nominate local inspirational role models or unsung heroes for an award.
The awards, which have David Mellor and Sons jewellers as their main sponsors this year, reward local people who go the extra mile or who make a difference to people’s lives.
Other categories include a citizen award, contribution to sport, and award for courage or bravery.
Also on the list is a health award, a contribution to arts award, a young person award and fundraiser of the year.
To nominate a teacher or anyone else see the Pride of Andover web site at www.PrideofAndoverAwards.org.uk Under 18s need the support of a parent to nominate someone.
Other supporters and sponsors of the awards include Solitaire jewellers, Simplyhealth, the Andover Town Council and Marks and Spencer.
