The idea of presenting the Pride of Andover Awards was inspired by Dick Bellringer of the Andover Advertiser and first honoured people who quietly make a difference to other peoples’ lives in 2007. The people who are the heart and heroes of our community.
It was and continues to be a way of saying a public “thank you” to those outstanding citizens of Andover.
The event was sponsored by Stannah for the first six years along with Simply Health, The Andover Advertiser and The Breeze.
Last year our new main Gold Sponsor took over in the shape of David Mellor Jewellers.
David Mellor Jewellers have a long history with the Town as David was a stalwart of Andover’s Thursday and Saturday market for 32 years before coming in from the cold and opening the shop in Waterloo Court six years ago, continuing the link with the town (he already had established branches in Eastleigh and Totton 28 and 26 years respectively).
With a history of supporting causes and events in and around the town, it should be no surprise that they took over as Gold Sponsor of the Pride of Andover Awards last year.
“We were approached by Iris Andersen about sponsoring one of the Pride of Andover Award categories when the main sponsor came up” said Christine.
“I called David and after a very quick chat we decided to become the Gold Sponsor. It was our way of saying ‘thank you’ for the support we’ve had from the town over the years. We were invited guests the previous year so had an insight into what the POA was all about so the decision was an easy one” she added.
As well as main sponsor, the family run business also supported the “Special Recognition Award” and in 2013 donated £600 to the Royal British Legion Riders in memory of the late Jamie Ottaway, whose family received the Special Recognition award in his honour.
